GeoWoodstock XI - Lakeland, FL - GC3K3YB

Postby Spotty Spotty Pony Girl on Sun Jun 03, 2012 11:49 am

Allright gang...we've got a year to figure out who's going and how they are getting there!

GeoWoodstock XI will be held on May 25, 2013 in Lakeland, FL. That's 811 miles from my home coords. And shockingly enough I've got "family" there.

Think substitute sidekick little brother & I are going to fly down and rent a car.

Unless the world really does end in December. Then probably not!

As of right now, we are planning on going. We too have people to visit down there. But, a year is a long time away and plans may change.

Looks like the date is actually May 25th and not the 23rd. I'll probably decide if I'm going on the 23rd.

  • I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

  • I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make when they go flying by.

Fixed the date. Oops.

My parents live there. I do my annual trek down there around that time every year. Not sure if you are all into geotrails, but OMG there are hundreds south of Mulberry, FL (30 min from Lakeland). I've been chipping away at them but usually only have time for a morning or 2 while I'm there. Good fun none-the-less. Lakeland/Mulberry incidentally is where I had the police called on a geocache I found under a lamppost thinking it was a bomb I placed back under it. They never found the culprit(teehee), but soon found out after engaging the entire police and bombsquad and roping it off that it was in fact a waterproof match container with paper in it. Im gonna try to be there.

Of those of you planning on going, how many are considering driving down and back and doing easy P&Gs along the way?
I know deizelsmommy was talking about driving. We we had batted around the idea of renting a van so a largeish group could travel together and share the driving.
According to maps.bing.com it's a 936.8 mi, 13 hr 35 min driving time trip. (That's Fairmont to Lakeland)

Wife won't fly, so at the very least, looks like we got ourselves a convoy!

Could someone please tell me who all is going and what all arrangements have been made. Husband and I 'might' plan on going and he wants more info. I didn't know where everyone was staying or if people were flying, riding, or bicycling. Thanks.
